Artificial intelligence (AI) is clearly the topic du jour as technologies that fall under the umbrella term of AI become increasingly woven into the fabric of our everyday lives. But what do we actually talk about when we talk about AI? What is AI, really? What else does it encompass beyond ChatGPT and other generative AI tools?

Indeed, while AI is on everyone’s lips these days and the latest and greatest in AI applications draws breathless news coverage, there are also many misconceptions about what AI actually is – so much so that you would be forgiven for not always having a clear understanding of the fundamentals of AI.
